We’ve got to stay together, be positive. “We’ve got an important week coming up next week and we have to be ready for that.”We knew how important a game this was for us. We created a lot of chances and didn’t finish them, you can get punished in this league for that.”

Burnley boss Dyche: Luck was with usby Paul Vegas9 months agoSend to a friendShare the loveBurnley earned victory over Fulham thanks to two own goals.Andre Schurrle’s wonderful early strike was cancelled out in the 20th minute when Jeff Hendrick’s effort went in off Joe Bryan. And three minutes later it was Denis Odoi who inadvertently beating Sergio Rico, heading in after Hendrick crossed.Burnley boss Sean Dyche said afterwards: “They were very tough conditions for both teams and it was a very tough win, for many reasons.“I didn’t think we played as well today as we did in the previous two wins, but the mentality to come back from a goal down for the second game in a row was terrific and I thought we grew into the game and ended up being the more progressive side.“We got a scratch of luck, but I’m not going to cry that one in because I don’t think we’ve had our share this season.“And towards the end James (Tarkowski) does what we maybe weren’t doing enough of at the start of the season, by making an absolutely fantastic block to make sure we go and win the game.“That’s as good a goal for me!”Dyche added: “They threw caution to the wind in the second half and why wouldn’t you?“They haven’t won away all season and they are trying to get a foothold in an important game, so they went very expansive, but I don’t remember them opening us up too many times.“The resilience, character and energy is back in the side and we are doing all the details better.“Earlier in the season we were conceding a lot of soft goals. Romelu Lukaku made a swift impact from the bench for a second consecutive match as Manchester United beat Newcastle United 2-0 at St James’ Park. The Belgium international was on the pitch for two minutes before rounding out Sunday’s 4-1 win over Bournemouth and had only been on for 38 seconds when Martin Dubravka spilled Marcus Rashford’s free-kick in his direction.Rashford continued a purple patch in front of goal 10 minutes from time, meaning a fourth win in as many outings at the start of his reign for caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – a feat only previously achieved by club great Matt Busby. Article continues below Editors’ Picks ‘There is no creativity’ – Can Solskjaer get Man Utd scoring freely again? ‘Everyone legged it on to the pitch!’ – How Foden went from Man City superfan to future superstar Emery out of jail – for now – as brilliant Pepe papers over Arsenal’s cracks What is Manchester United’s ownership situation and how would Kevin Glazer’s sale of shares affect the club? Phil Jones, into the Manchester United defence for the suspended Eric Bailly, made a last-ditch tackle on Salomon Rondon to atone for his own absent-minded play in the 15th minute.Newcastle winger Christian Atsu spurned a trio of half chances – something that seemed dangerously wasteful when Dubravka had to be quickly off his line to thwart Rashford and Juan Mata.In between those openings for his team-mates, Anthony Martial sliced onto the roof of the net, which is where Rondon’s 34th-minute header also ended up.Newcastle substitute Jonjo Shelvey struck a wonderful pass to unlock Manchester United with the outside of his right foot in the 60th minute, with Luke Shaw scampering back to deny Ayoze Perez. But one of the hosts’ most valuable performers then let them down and Lukaku was on hand to pounce on Dubravka’s error.Shelvey showcased the ugly side of his game by raking his studs down Paul Pogba’s leg – inexplicably escaping any punishment beyond a foul.0:38 – Romelu Lukaku’s goal for Manchester United came just 38 seconds after coming on as a substitute against Newcastle. United close in on top four as Newcastle worries mountThe free-scoring enjoyment of Solskjaer’s initial games could not be replicated against a disciplined Newcastle backline but United showed pleasing patience and ruthlessness after half-time. They are three points behind Arsenal in fifth and now just six shy of Chelsea in the final Champions League spot. Maurizio Sarri’s side drew 0-0 with third-bottom Southampton, who are within two points of Newcastle in 15th. Crystal Palace and Burnley – either side of Rafael Benitez’s team in the standings – were both victorious on Wednesday.Confidence coursing through RashfordPogba was named Manchester United player of the month earlier on Wednesday and the France star’s performances have certainly hogged headlines in the wake of his uneasy alliance with Jose Mourinho being put out of its misery. Rashford is perhaps entitled to feel hard done by, having consistently impressed under Solskjaer after being one of the few who did not appear to down tools during Mourinho’s final weeks in charge. The free-kick Dubravka decisively spilled was not the first he struck with aplomb and his late goal means the 20-year-old now has five goals in his past seven appearances.Atsu lacks convictionAtsu displayed excellent movement and a sure touch as he made hay down the Manchester United right during the opening stages. CHAPEL HILL, NC – OCTOBER 07: Ian Book #12 of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish rolls out against the North Carolina Tar Heels during the game at Kenan Stadium on October 7, 2017 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. (Photo by Grant Halverson/Getty Images)Notre Dame and Michigan went to war in the first week of the college football season, and it’s possible that they meet again later in the year. However, ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit does envision a scenario where one team gets into the College Football Playoff over the other. If the Fighting Irish lose one game before the season ends and the Wolverines continue their winning ways, both teams would have nearly identical resumes. Yet, Notre Dame defeated Michigan in the first game of the season at home.Although a head-to-head victory should help in Notre Dame’s favor, Herbstreit thinks Michigan might have the more impressive journey by the end of the regular season. From 247Sports.com:“If Michigan wins out, I’m not one of these guys who hangs on to a game that was played in late August, early September,” Herbstreit said. “It was on the road for Michigan when they were a completely different team. Under your (Rece Davis) hypothetical if Notre Dame were to stumble, the argument for me, I would look at a Michigan team that lost Week 1 and then climbed and climbed and climbed. Win the Big Ten Championship, I would put Michigan ahead of Notre Dame if they stumbled.”It’s safe to say that many fans of the Fighting Irish will be furious over these comments.Nonetheless, Herbstreit does make an interesting point about the Wolverines. Victories over Michigan State, Penn State and Ohio State to end the season would be extremely impressive. If Notre Dame wants to avoid the possibility of this nightmare scenario, then completing its pursuit of perfection needs to be the goal.
NORMAN, OK – SEPTEMBER 29: Quarterback Austin Kendall #10 of the Oklahoma Sooners warms up before the game against the Baylor Bears at Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium on September 29, 2018 in Norman, Oklahoma. Oklahoma defeated Baylor 66-33. (Photo by Brett Deering/Getty Images)Yet another major quarterback name has reportedly appeared in the NCAA transfer portal: Oklahoma’s Austin Kendall. That is very interesting news for the Sooners.Assuming Kyler Murray leaves for either the NFL or to start his baseball career, Kendall is the most experienced play on the roster, and a highly-touted player in his own right. It is funny to think about now, but he gave Kyler Murray a real run for the starting job during the off-season.Murray wasn’t named the starter until August 22, and went on to an historic Heisman season.Oklahoma is at the center of numerous transfer rumors for other players, like Alabama’s Jalen Hurts, and brings in the nation’s No. 1 quarterback in Spencer Rattler in its recruiting class, so there’s a chance that Kendall becomes the odd-man out.Austin Kendall has reportedly entered his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal. From the Tulsa World:Oklahoma quarterback Austin Kendall is entering the transfer portal to explore his future options, a source close to the situation informed the Tulsa World on Friday afternoon.Kendall has spent the past three seasons on the Sooners’ roster. As a true freshman, he was OU’s backup quarterback to Baker Mayfield. After sitting out a redshirt season, Kendall held the same role for Kyler Murray in 2018.Kendall was the primary back-up for Baker Mayfield in 2016, and Kyler Murray this fall. He took a redshirt year in 2017, so he should have two years of eligibility remaining. He is also set to graduate, so he would be immediately eligible. The transfer portal doesn’t mean that a player will definitely leave, and if Oklahoma doesn’t bring in another veteran, Kendall will be the favorite to start for the Sooners, since Rattler will be a true freshman and isn’t set to arrive on campus until the summer.Still, the fact that he is considering it at all is quite telling.[Tulsa World]

Miami won 36-30. (Photo by Craig Jones/Getty Images)It’s a commonly held belief that the SEC is a better overall conference than the ACC. But after Clemson’s 15-0 season that included wins over three SEC teams, including Alabama in the national title game, one of the Tigers’ assistants decided to put that SEC-ACC argument to the test.Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, Clemson offensive coordinator Jeff Scott posted a graphic depicting Clemson’s performance versus the team’s three SEC opponents, as well as the top ACC opponents. The graphic indicated that Clemson’s offense performed significantly better against the defenses of Texas A&M, South Carolina, and Alabama, compared to the defenses of Syracuse, N.C. State, and Boston College.Specifically, Clemson offense performed a full 10 points and 91 yards better against the SEC defenses they faced versus the ACC’s top defenses.?♂️ pic.twitter.com/2pbU5msTki— Coach Jeff Scott (@coach_jeffscott) February 6, 2019It is worth noting though that the SEC trio still managed to hold the team to fewer points per game than the team’s average against all opponents. On the season, Clemson wound up averaging 44.3 points per game, the fourth best in the nation. On defense, the team allowed just 13.1 points per game, the best rate in the nation. The 28 points that the Tigers scored against Texas A&M was the third lowest against any opponent on the season, while the 56 they scored against South Carolina were only the fourth most.Of course, the cherry on top for Clemson’s offense was the unit’s performance against the Alabama Crimson Tide in the national title game: 37 points from the offense plus a pick-six by the defense in a 44-16 rout.
